Question and Answers on Aharoni Law Firm

Timeline of Estate Administration in Israel

Usually, it takes 4-6 months for an estate to be completed probate or administration.

As a real estate lawyer with nearly two decades of experience in Israel, I’ve guided hundreds families through the estate administration process. While the exact timeframe can differ, my experience suggests the following:

  • Simple Estates (Israeli will, few assets): These can often be resolved in as little as a few months. This assumes a valid will, clearly defined assets, and understanding among heirs.
  • Moderate Complexity (foreign will, varied assets): This often takes 4-6 months. Assessing statements of assets across categories (e.g., real estate, investments), and coordinating with overseas parties can add time.
  • Complex Estates (disputes): These can stretch to a year or more. Litigation, which includes resolving disagreements and validating the will and valuations of assets (businesses, collections), all contribute to the length.

Please note that:

  • These are estimated timeframes based on my extensive experience. Each case is unique.
  • The timeline can be influenced by various factors, such as heirs’ cooperation, the quality of the deceased’s records, and court schedules.
  • Proactive planning, such as preparing a straightforward will and full records, is the best way to ensure a smoother and faster process. These steps can make you feel empowered and in control of your estate administration, bringing peace of mind during a challenging time.
